Cultists kill polytechnic student
A student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin was shot to death by five gunmen suspected to be cultists.
The gunmen who carried out the attack on Wednesday, February 24, reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
It was reported that the victim, a second year student of the polytechnic, was a member of a rival cult group.
Eyewitness reports showed that the incident happened at about 7:30pm.
Punch reported that after the assailants shot at the student from a far distance and missed their target, they reportedly chased and grabbed him and shot him many times in the head before they fled.
The school’s security personnel then quickly alerted the police who then rushed to the scene of the incident, took and deposited the remains of the student at the mortuary of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The institution’s Registrar, Mr. Moses Salami, who confirmed the killing, said the deceased was a 2nd year National Diploma (ND) student.
“They arrived at the scene of the incident and took his corpse away to UITH.
“Since then, the security agencies have been coming to our polytechnic to investigate the incident,” Salami noted.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, said he heard that a student was killed at Kwara State Polytechnic on the said day.
