The award ceremony was hosted by Chris Rock, who hosted the awards for the first time in 2005.

DiCaprio bested the likes of Matt Damon (The Martian),Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo) for "best actor" in a leading role.
