Burna Boy's new controversy brings back spotlight on "On A Spaceship" album
Last year Burna Boy released his highly promoted album “On A Spaceship”, and in all honesty, that album flopped. The pop star’s effort on the project failed to get him any hit, except from his single ‘Soke’. Sadly, he is involved in a fresh controversy with the producer of that song.
Burna Boy’s ‘Soke’ was produced by Orbeat, a man well-known for his work on Timaya’s ‘Sanko’, and Solidstar’s ‘My body’. And it has gone on to be the only shining light from Burna Boy’s OAS album which has received dismal reviews.
Orbeat is currently at loggerheads with the singer due to the release of a new single, ‘Acting Bad’, which according to the producer, was a beat he didn’t give permission for the singer to utilize, and release. Burna Boy claims the song was a leak, and even accused Orbeat of leaking the song to push a hidden agenda. In between, there have been wild name-calling, accusations of drug abuse being thrown around, and plenty of banter.
In between the haze of bad blood, anger and accusations, one fact becomes stark; Burna Boy has another controversy on his hands.
The singer has had controversy dog him all through his career, with popular industry opinion being that his career growth has been stunted by them. Burna Boy has fought with Buffalo Souljah at a party in South Africa, threatened to kill bloggers who write about him, attacked the MAMAs for not giving him an individual nomination, and has a hanging story of violence trailing him from his time in the UK. Also last year, he was involved in a case of road rage in Lekki, Lagos. The list goes on.
It’s telling that the only song which gave him a bright spot on the album has now been brought forward in a controversy. This all could have been avoided, and social media would not have had to experience another meltdown involving an artiste in 2016. Burna Boy has instead responded to the artiste with fire and brimstone, and now we are at this point. A point where the daggers have been unsheathed and blood is about to be drawn. Legal actions have been threatened, and the voice of reason is not currently being trodden.
But there is still a way to come back from this path. All that needs to be done is for Burna Boy’s team to reach an understanding with Orbeat, and everything would vanish into space, and social media would move on, just like it always has.
